This latest collaboration between the pair (Roberts designed Radnor’s Upper East Side apartment showroom and launched the Triad furniture line with the label in 2021) features GoodWeave-certified rugs that are hand-corded, hand-spun, and hand-knotted in Nepal. With furnishings, we’re more expressive and often go for a layered look. If we’ve done our job right, the elements look like they’ve been collected over time by our clients and not by us. At move-in, we leave the house about 25 percent empty with room for growth.
Johanknecht makes a similar case for the benefits of apartment life. “I lived in a cozy Tudor cottage for a dozen years, but I wanted a different experience. I like the efficiency of an apartment, and I like being up high—it gives you a different relationship to the landscape,” he explains, describing the panoramic vistas of the San Gabriel Mountains and the downtown L.A.
